I thought I would share a number of images that typify my style. These are rooms that I would love to recreate for a client or have reflected in my own home.

It’s beautiful, sunny weekends like the one we just had when I wish I had some shade in our backyard. We receive full sun most of the day. I love the idea of a wood pergola because they are attractive, large in scale, add a natural element if left unpainted and create a cozy dining or seating area. The second image is from a company that did our front yard landscaping and the third image was taken at the National Home Show this past February.
Usually when I stage a home for resale, the realtor calls me only a few days before it goes on the market. This doesn’t give the homeowner enough time to ready their home and show it at its best. Sometimes I have clients who contact me directly months before the For Sale sign goes up and who are willing to put some effort and money into staging their home. One of these clients was able to turn a dated kitchen (think pickled oak cabinets) into a fresh, welcoming space using paint and inexpensive tumbled marble backsplash tiles.
If you are thinking of selling your home, allow plenty of time to make improvements so that your house will sell quickly for top dollar.
It was interesting to see the design concept, room layout and colours used by each of the designers in their unique spaces. My favourite space was Katherine Newman’s transformation of the living room and conservatory, but I also loved Patricia Halpin’s graphic and fun baby’s room and Anne Hepfer’s Chanel inspired space. Taking photos was off limits, so you will have to wait until the October, 2009 issue of House and Home to see some inspirational photos.
